CIDCO to launch Navi Mumbai Metro Phase 1 soon, trial run completed

Navi Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): The much-awaited first corridor of Navi Mumbai Metro will soon start for public service. The City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited (CIDCO) said that the trial from Central Park to Belapur stations was successfully condicted on 31st December 2022.

The trial between the Central Park and Pendhar stations under Phase I was completed earlier and already received safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS). Now, with the successful completion of the Central Park-Belapur trials under Phase II, the commercial operations of Line No. 1 of Navi Mumbai Metro is expected to commence soon.
 
"A trial run was held earlier between Central Park and Pendhar and now we have completed the trial from Central Park to Belapur. Very soon, operations of metro line number one will commence," said Sanjay Mukherjee, Chairman & Managing Director, CIDCO.
 
The stretch which completed the trials now is 5.96 kilometre long. Metro stations in this stretch include CBD Belapur, Sion-Panvel Expressway, Sector 7 (CBD Belapur), CIDCO Science Park (Kharghar), Kharghar railway station, Utsav Chowk (Kharghar), Sector 11 (Kharghar), Sector 14 (Kharghar) and Central Park (Kharghar).
 
The total length of Line 1 from Pendhar to Belapur is 11 kilometres. This is one of the four elevated metro rail routes being developed by CIDCO in Navi Mumbai.
 
The estimated project cost for Metro line 1 is Rs 3,400 crore and the CIDCO has already spent Rs 2,600 crore. All the phases of Line 1 will be constructed and funded by CIDCO. Lines 2 and 3 will be funded by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) respectively.
 
The project also involves the construction of a 2 km link and one station between Pendhar and MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) and also the construction of a 5 km link to connect the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport from Khandeshwar.
 
The Maharshtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro) has been appointed to operate and maintain the Navi Mumbai Metro.
