CMRS to inspect Krishna Park Ext Section of Delhi Metro Phase IV

Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): The Delhi Metro's ambitious Phase 4 project is on the cusp of a significant milestone. The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) is scheduled to conduct the final safety inspection of the Magenta Line's 2.03 km extension from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension on July 30, 2024. This underground section, which features a new station at Krishna Park Extension, is the first segment of the extensive 85.86 km Phase 4 project poised to commence operations. The project aims to enhance connectivity and alleviate congestion, with the inauguration likely coinciding with Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

The inspection will be thorough, with the CMRS and team meticulously examining the twin tunnels, tracks, and various facilities at the Krishna Park Extension Station. The inspection will include a comprehensive review of the Public Address (PA) system, signage, safety features, drinking water facilities, station access points, and the control room. The day-long evaluation will culminate in a high-speed trial run, where the inspection train is expected to reach speeds exceeding 80 km/h.

The construction of this Magenta Line extension was undertaken by the HCC – VCCL Joint Venture under Package DC-06, with a targeted completion time of 36 months. The tunneling work was executed using a Terratec tunnel boring machine (TBM) named S86 "Triveni," which completed the tunneling between Vikaspuri Shaft and Krishna Park Extension in November 2022. Subsequent track installation inside the tunnels was carried out by Paras Railtech as part of Package DT-05, awarded in the same month. Trial runs, utilizing one of Delhi's RS10 Hyundai Rotem trains, commenced approximately a month ago, and the line underwent an inspection by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Managing Director on July 23.

The opening of the Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension will extend the Magenta Line deeper into West Delhi. This extension is a critical segment of the 28.92 km Janakpuri West to RK Ashram extension under Phase 4, comprising both underground and elevated sections. Upon completion, the Magenta Line will stretch 30.95 km, connecting Botanical Garden to Krishna Park Extension via 26 stations. This expansion will bring the total length of the Delhi Metro network to an impressive 353.31 km.

Residents and commuters in West Delhi eagerly await the new extension, which promises to enhance daily commutes by reducing travel time and easing road traffic congestion.
