Govt cancels metro rail extension plan from Delhi to Mohan Nagar and Sahibabad

Ghaziabad, India (Metro Rail Today): People living in Ghaziabad and Vasundhara of Uttar Pradesh have got a big shock as the proposed metro extension from Vaishali to Mohannagar and Sahibabad has been shelved now. It means the metro train coming from Delhi will not proceed beyond Vaishali.

The Uttar Pradesh government has again sought a detailed report from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) and Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) regarding investment in this regard. Significantly, the local people had demonstrated for almost a year regarding their demand to extend metro rail from Vaishali to Mohan Nagar and Sahibabad.

Significantly, the length of the proposed metro corridor from Vaishali to Mohannagar was 5.04 km. Its construction was to be elevated. Four stations were proposed to be built on this route, from where passengers could take the metro to their destination. These include Prahladgarhi, Vasundhara Sector-14, Sahibabad and Mohannagar.

The estimated cost of this project was estimated at Rs 1808.22 crore, for which the DPR was prepared five years ago. Not only this, the special feature of this corridor was that Sahibabad Metro station will have common entry and exit with Delhi Meerut RRTS station. According to the survey of that time, 37,438 passengers were to be directly benefited daily by the construction of this track.

The people had met many big officials and ministers in Lucknow regarding the demand for metro expansion on both these routes. From Sangharsh Samiti, Federation of AOA and even many councilors were involved in this. People say that no other project can take the place of Metro.
