Pune, India (Metro Rail Today): The ambitious Pune Metro Line 3, connecting the IT hub of Hinjewadi to the central business district of Shivajinagar, is making significant strides in its construction. The project has reached a noteworthy milestone as the 5000th segment of the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar metro line was successfully cast on Saturday. Notably, this achievement comes within a short span of seven months since the completion of the 2000th segment in Hinjawadi on April 24, 2022.
Undertaken by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis, the Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, established by the Tata Group as a special purpose company (SPC), is driving the implementation of Pune Metro Line 3.
Alok Kapoor, Chief Executive Officer of Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, expressed, “The Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar metro line is envisioned to offer an easy, fast, and cost-effective public transport alternative for the citizens of Pune. Our dedicated efforts are directed towards completing this project within the stipulated timeframe. Achieving the milestone of casting the 5000th segment in just sixteen consecutive months, along with erecting 80% of total piers within one and a half years of project commencement, demonstrates the robust progress of the project.”
The Pune Metro Line III is a substantial ~23 Km elevated Metro rail project designed to connect the IT hub of Hinjawadi with the central business district of Shivajinagar. This Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative was awarded by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to a consortium comprising Tata Group’s TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited (TUTPL) and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH. The project operates on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate & Transfer (DBFOT) basis through a special purpose vehicle (SPV) named Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL). The concession period spans 35 years, encompassing the construction period.
The completion of 5000 segments signifies the project's rapid advancement. The developers are committed to realizing the metro line's potential as a vital and efficient mode of public transportation for Pune residents. With 80% of total piers already in place within a year and a half, the project is poised for further success.
