Pune Metro Line 3 receives first Made in India train set from Alstom

Pune, India (Metro Rail Today): Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd. (PITCMRL) has announced the arrival of the first train for Pune Metro Line 3 project in Pune. The train sourced from Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility will arrive on 2nd June at the Mann depot of Pune Metro Line 3. This 100% made in India manufactured train is developed and built at the Alstom facility in Sri City (Andhra Pradesh).

PITCMRL has awarded a contract of providing total 22 train sets for Pune Metro Line 3. The train sets having three cars each with a carrying capacity of 1000 passengers are set to enhance urban mobility in Pune.

The work of Pune Metro Line 3 on the Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar route has been jointly undertaken by Tata Group and PMRDA based on the Public Private Partnership (PPP) and Tata Group has established Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited as a special purpose vehicle (SPV) company for its implementation.

Commenting on the timely arrival of the first train Alok Kapoor, Chief Executive Office of Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd. said, “The trains that we are sourcing for Pune Metro Line 3 are equipped with cutting-edge technology like third rail system and regenerative breaking. These trains are designed to provide a safe, reliable, and eco-friendly mode of transport showcasing our commitment to innovation and sustainability. The Pune Metro Line 3 trains will have an operational speed of 85 km/h to smoothly connect the IT hub of Hinjawadi with central business district of Shivajinagar. It is the policy of the Tata Group not to compromise on quality and safety in all phases of the project, which was undertaken for the convenience of the citizens and these trains are a testament to our dedication.”

The Pune Metro Line III is a ~23 Km elevated Metro rail project connecting the IT hub of Hinjawadi to the Central business district of Shivajinagar. It is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) project awarded by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to a consortium consisting of Tata Group’s TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited (TUTPL) and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH. The Project would be developed & operated on a Design, build, finance, operate & transfer (DBFOT) basis by a special purpose vehicle (SPV), Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) for a Concession Period of 35 years including the construction period.
