Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has recently awarded a civil contract worth Rs 499.41 crores to a consortium of RITES Ltd and Power Mech Projects Limited for the design and Construction of Depot cum Workshop at Challaghatta in Reach-2 Extension of Bangalore Metro Rail Project, Phase-2.
The tender notice for the construction of depot-cum-workshop at Challaghatta in Bengaluru was invited in January 2022 with an estimated cost of work of Rs 517.44 crores and a 24-month work completion deadline. Technical bids were opened in March 2022 where BMRCL reveals the participation of 5 bidders.
The financial bids were opened in April 2022 and RITES-Power Mech JV emerged as the lowest bidder. The financial positions of all bidders were as under:-
The RITES - Power Mech JV has to complete the depot-cum-workshop construction works in two years from the date of issuance of the Letter of Acceptance (LoA) by BMRCL. The Challaghatta Depot is the 5th and final depot of the Bangalore Metro's Phase 2 project.
This depot is of crucial importance as all trains of the Baiyappanahalli-Kengeri Line (that would be later extended till Challaghatta) will be stabled and maintained here when ready.
