Surat, India (Metro Rail Today): Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRC) has issued an work order/letter of acceptance (LoA) worth Rs 198,93,34,549.77 (Rs 198.93 crore) to Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) for the construction of metro car depot for Surat Metro Rail Project Phase 1 at Bhesan in Surat, Gujarat.
The scope of woork under civil contract package DC-02 includes construction of Bhesan Depot cum Rolling Stock Workshop which includes providing detailed design consultancy (DDC), BCC and associated E&M works for Corridor – 2 (Bhesan to Saroli) of Surat Metro Rail Project, Phase – 1.
Tender notice for the above contract package was issued in April 2022 with 20 months work completion deadline. This was final major civil contract of Phase 1 of Surat Metro Rail Project.
The depot will serve 19.26 km long Corridor 2 connecting Bhesan to Saroli with 18 elevated metro stations at Bhesan, Botanical Garden, Ugat Vaarigruh, Palanpur Road, LP Savani School, Performing Art Centre, Adajan Gam, Aquarium, Badri Narayan Temple, Athwa Chopati, Majura Gate (Interchange with Line 1), Udhna Dawaja, Kamela Darwaja, Anjana Farm, Model Town, Magob, Bharat Cancer Hospital and Saroli.
Rail Vikas Nigam Limited is a Category-I Mini-Ratna CPSE under the Ministry of Railways. It was incorporated in 2003 to meet the India's surging infrastructural requirements and to implement projects on a fast-track basis.
