Seven firms bid for Electrification contract of Surat Metro Rail Project

Surat, India (Metro Rail Today): The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (GMRC) has recently opened technical bids for supply of 750 V DC Third Rail electrification system for Surat Metro Rail Project Phase 1. A total of seven firms have submitted their bids for the contract package EP-1/2022.

Tender notice for Supply, Erection, Testing and Commissioning of Power Supply receiving & Distribution System, 750 V DC Third Rail Traction electrification and SCADA System for Phase 1 of Surat Metro Rail Project was issued in February 2022.

GMRC has received a total of seven bids from the following firms:-

• Sterling and Wilson Ltd
• KEC International Ltd
• Larsen & Toubro (L&T)
• Linxon India Pvt. Ltd.
• RVNL – Siemens JV
• Kalpataru Power Transmission Ltd – Gulermak JV
• Techno Electric & Engineering Company – ABL Electricals JV

750VDC Third rail system is more suitable for installation in tunnels with smaller clearance than overhead conductive wire systems. Third rail system also reduces the maintenance workload.

The Phase 1 of Surat Metro Rail Project is comprises of two lines with combined length of 40.35 km and 37 stations.
