Tender floated for Underground section of Yellow Line of Indore Metro Rail Project

Indore, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development for the Indore Metro Phase 1 project, the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MPMRCL) has officially invited tenders for the civil construction work of Package IN-05, the underground section of the Yellow Line. This marks a crucial phase in the expansion of Indore's metro network, bringing the underground component to the forefront of the ambitious 33.53 km project.

The IN-05 package encompasses the design and construction of twin tunnels, utilizing Shield Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) for both up and down directions. The underground section, spanning 8.626 km, will connect a ramp east of Indore Railway Station to a ramp west of Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport. This underground alignment incorporates seven strategically located stations, namely Indore Railway Station, Rajwada, Chota Ganpati, Bada Ganpati, Ramchandra Nagar, BSF/Kalyani Nagar, and Airport.

One notable adjustment in the project scope is the combination of BSF and Kalani Nagar stations into a unified station, now known as Chota Ganpati Station. Additionally, the renaming of Maulana Azad Marg Station to Chota Ganpati Station streamlines the nomenclature of the metro network.

The MPMRCL has set a stringent deadline of 1456 days (four years) for the completion of this underground package, with an estimated project cost of ₹2,550 crore. Interested contractors are required to submit their bids by April 22, 2024, at 4.00 PM, followed by the opening of technical bids on April 23, 2024, at 4:30 PM.

Notably, the financing for this significant infrastructural endeavor will be facilitated through a USD225 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), pending approval from the ADB's board.

As the final civil package for the Yellow Line enters the bidding stage, the Indore Metro Phase 1 project takes a crucial step towards enhancing the city's connectivity and providing a robust public transportation system. This underground section is poised to play a pivotal role in serving commuters efficiently while contributing to the overall urban development of Indore.

The initiation of tenders for Package IN-05 heralds a new phase in the realization of the Indore Metro project, setting the groundwork for advanced underground connectivity and bolstering the city's infrastructure.
