Indore, India (Metro Rail Today): The Indore Metro Rail Project achieved a major breakthrough as the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) successfully conducted a trial run on the Yellow Line’s Priority Corridor between SC-03 Station and Malviya Nagar Chauraha. The milestone marks a crucial step toward the completion of the city’s first metro system, which promises to redefine mobility in Madhya Pradesh’s commercial capital.
The Managing Director of MPMRCL congratulated engineers, workers, and project teams for their dedication and technical excellence. “This successful trial is not just an engineering feat—it’s a symbol of Indore’s transition into a modern, sustainable, and commuter-friendly city,” the MD said.
The Indore Metro, a flagship mass rapid transit system (MRTS), is designed to improve connectivity, ease road congestion, and provide eco-friendly urban mobility.
Total planned network: 124.43 km (across six proposed lines)
Phase 1: 31.55 km Yellow Line (Ring Line)
Stations: 21 elevated and 7 underground
Depot location: Gandhinagar
The Yellow Line will connect key destinations including Gandhi Nagar, Bhawarsla Chauraha, Malviya Nagar, Indore Railway Station, Rajwada, and the Airport—forming a loop that enhances accessibility across the city’s residential, commercial, and transit hubs.
The trial run covered a 6.3 km elevated stretch between Gandhi Nagar and Super Corridor (SC)-3, now extended to Malviya Nagar Chauraha. Civil works on the viaducts, elevated stations, and the depot are nearly complete, while system installations are progressing rapidly.
Key corridor details:
Length: 6 km
Status: Successful trial completed
Technology: State-of-the-art signaling and modern three-coach trains
Objective: To provide a safe, efficient, and environment-friendly travel option for commuters
Beyond improving daily commutes, the Indore Metro represents a leap toward sustainable city development. It is expected to:
Reduce travel time for residents and professionals
Cut vehicular emissions, supporting India’s climate goals
Enhance commuter comfort through air-conditioned, safety-equipped coaches
Boost real estate and business growth around metro corridors
As Mrs. Mamta Shah, Managing Director & CEO of Urban Infra Group, noted:
“Projects like the Indore Metro reflect India’s new urban vision—sustainability blended with smart technology. Such modern transit systems are key to shaping cities that are not only connected but also cleaner and more livable.”
The Indore Metro will begin operations in phases, starting with 25 three-car trains. Once fully functional, it will join the ranks of new metro systems in Surat, Patna, and Varanasi, underscoring India’s rapid strides in modern urban transport.
The successful Yellow Line trial run marks Indore’s emergence as a leader in green mobility and sustainable urban planning—paving the way for a smarter, faster, and more connected future for its citizens.
