Porto, Portugal (Metro Rail Today): Ayesa, a leading global engineering and technology firm, has secured new contracts to lead the Design and Environmental Services for the highly anticipated Porto Metro 3.0 expansion. The contracts, part of the €1 billion expansion plan, involve the development of four new metro lines, spanning 40 kilometers and incorporating 38 new stations across the Porto metropolitan area.
The winning consortium, headed by Ayesa and partnered with Portuguese engineering firm GRID, emerged victorious in a competitive tender process in March 2024. The new lines will connect strategic areas including Porto, Gondomar, Trofa, Maia, and Matosinhos, significantly enhancing public transportation, reducing congestion, and supporting sustainable urban growth in these growing regions.
This milestone continues Ayesa's strong presence in Portugal, where the firm has already delivered successful projects, including the Porto Metro Yellow Line extension, inaugurated in June 2024, and the Ruby Line, which is currently under construction. Ayesa’s extensive experience in large-scale infrastructure projects further positions it as a leader in the transportation sector.
With a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, Ayesa brings innovative, reliable, and sustainable solutions to complex transportation challenges worldwide. The firm has a proven track record in major cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Riyadh, Lima, Bogotá, Santiago de Chile, Mumbai, and Delhi, having contributed to several globally significant projects.
In the latest ENR Global Sourcebook, Ayesa is ranked 24th globally in the transportation sector, solidifying its reputation as one of the world’s top 30 transportation infrastructure firms.
The Porto Metro 3.0 expansion represents a transformative step for the city, with Ayesa playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of transportation in the region. This project will not only alleviate congestion but also offer sustainable and efficient transit solutions, further enhancing Porto's status as a forward-thinking, connected urban hub.
