Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): Tunnel Boring Machine (nicknamed Lavi) has achived its second and final breakthrough at Rashtriya Military School Station of Pine Line (Kalena Agaraha – Nagawara) of Bnagalore Metro's Phase 2 on 16th February 2023. With this milestone, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) said that 72 per cent of the tunnel work is now completed. "15.21 km out of 21.245 km of tunnelling work is completed," said official statement.
Telling about the commissioning deadline, officials said that 21.25 km of the Pink Line between Kalena Agrahara station and Nagawara is expected to be completed by March 2025.
The TBM Lavi (DZ672) was deployed by Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T) for building 2.755 km Package RT-02 connecting Shivaji Nagar – MG Road – Rashtriya Military School. The first breakthrough was achieved in April 2022 at MG Road Station.
"TBM Lavi started tunnelling at Shivajinagar on March 26, 2021 and attained breakthrough at MG Road station after completing 1.074 km of tunnelling on April 23, 2022. It further started tunnelling from MG Road on May 26, 2022 and completed the drive Wednesday up to RMS (Vellara) station covering a tunnel length of 1.13 km," said official press release.
The 21.25 kilomters Pink Line of the Bangalore Metro will connect Kalena Agrahara on Bannerghatta Road (southern part of Bengaluru) to Nagawara (the north side) with 18 metro stations at Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, IIM-Bangalore, JP Nagar 4th Phase, Jayadeva Hospital, Swagath Road Cross, Dairy Circle, Lakkasandra, Langford Town, Rashtriya Military School, MG Road, Shivaji Nagar, Cantonment, Pottery Town, Tannery Road, Venkateshpura, Kadugundanahalli and Nagawara.
The Pink Line will cover a distance of 14 km underground and 7 km of elevated stretch which will pass through the central business district of the City. The inter-change with the Purple Line will be at MG Road Metro station.
Four of the nine TBMs — Urja, Varada, Avni and now Lavi — have completed the boring operations for Bangalore Metro's Phase 2 so far.
