Bhopal Metro recorded 80 kmph speed during the trial run on priority corridor

Bhopal, India (Metro Rail Today): The Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) has successfully achieved an operational speed of 80 km per hour during a trial run of the metro train on Friday. This marks the first time the metro has reached such a high speed. The top speed set for the Bhopal Metro is 90 km per hour. The trial was conducted on a priority corridor between Subash Nagar Metro Station and Rani Kamlapati Railway Station.

Sibi Chakravarthy, the Managing Director of Metro Rail Corporation Limited, congratulated the entire metro train team on the successful trial run. Initially, when the first metro arrived, it was tested at speeds ranging from 10 to 15 km per hour. Subsequent trials gradually increased the speed to 20-25 km per hour and higher in later tests.

During the trial run, every system and software was thoroughly checked. In addition to speed, the braking system, announcement system, CCTV, and gate opening and closing systems were meticulously inspected. A video recording was made when the train achieved the 80 km per hour speed, and detailed notes were taken on the performance of various systems.

Following the successful completion of the speed trial, the same software will be installed in the remaining metro trains. Currently, Bhopal has five sets of metro trains undergoing various tests, including those conducted by the metro train manufacturing company Alstom. A total of 27 metro trains are planned to operate in the state capital.

In October, last year former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan flagged off the trial run on the priority section of the Bhopal Metro Rail Project.
