Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has issued a new recruitment notification, Employment Notification No. CMRL/HR/CON/DEP/01/2026, inviting applications for civil engineering positions on a contract basis. The move is aimed at strengthening technical manpower as the organisation accelerates execution of ongoing works and prepares for large-scale expansion under Phase 2 of the Chennai Metro Rail Project.
The recruitment drive reflects CMRL’s continued focus on timely project delivery, quality construction, and safety-led infrastructure development. With Phase 2 construction gaining momentum across multiple corridors, the induction of experienced civil engineering professionals is expected to play a crucial role in managing complex underground and elevated works, depots, stations, and associated urban infrastructure.
CMRL has emerged as one of India’s most efficient metro operators, known for its disciplined project execution and strong emphasis on asset lifecycle management. The latest recruitment initiative is aligned with the organisation’s strategy of supplementing in-house expertise with domain specialists to handle increasing project scale and technical complexity.
Interested candidates are required to submit the online application along with requisite documents on or before 23 February 2026.
Industry experts view the recruitment as a timely step, especially as Indian metro systems transition from pure construction to integrated delivery involving design coordination, safety certification, interface management, and long-term sustainability.
The recruitment notification also underlines the growing demand for experienced professionals in India’s urban rail ecosystem, driven by simultaneous metro construction across multiple cities. Chennai Metro’s structured approach to manpower planning is being increasingly cited as a benchmark for other metro corporations.
The Chennai Metro Phase 2 project is among the largest metro expansions currently under implementation in India, involving extensive underground sections, elevated viaducts, stations, and depots. As execution intensifies, the need for robust engineering supervision and quality control has become increasingly critical.
By issuing the latest recruitment notification, CMRL has reaffirmed its commitment to operational excellence, safety, and timely delivery. The move is expected to not only support current construction activities but also contribute to building a strong knowledge base within the organisation for future phases of Chennai’s expanding metro network.
