Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): Bengaluru is on the brink of a major mobility breakthrough as the much-awaited Yellow Line of Namma Metro, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra, enters its final safety inspection phase. Beginning Tuesday, the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), AM Chowdhary, along with his team, will conduct a four-day inspection of the 18.8 km line — a statutory requirement before the route can be formally opened to the public. The outcome of this inspection will determine the final green signal for operations, and with that, the start of a new chapter in the city's expanding metro network.
The Yellow Line is especially significant as it links Bengaluru’s bustling IT and industrial corridor of Electronics City with the rest of the city. With tech parks, multinational offices, and industrial hubs along this stretch, the line is expected to dramatically reduce traffic congestion on Hosur Road and offer thousands of commuters a reliable and eco-friendly daily travel alternative. However, the project had faced multiple delays primarily due to the non-availability of adequate rolling stock. BMRCL has so far received only three sets of metro trains, with the fourth expected to arrive in August. Despite the challenge, authorities are aiming for an Independence Day opening, pending successful completion of safety checks.
A senior BMRCL official confirmed, “As this is a brand-new corridor, the inspection will likely take four days. Only after receiving approval from the CMRS will we be in a position to announce the official opening date.”
This project, estimated to cost over ₹5,000 crore, includes 16 elevated stations and has been developed using state-of-the-art technology. The line is expected to serve over 1.5 lakh passengers daily once fully operational, significantly easing commute pressure in southern Bengaluru.
Highlighting the national significance of this milestone, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO of Urban Infra Group, said, “The Yellow Line is not just another infrastructure addition — it’s a strategic investment in urban connectivity and sustainable growth. With every new metro line, we are not just laying tracks, but laying the foundation for smarter, cleaner, and more inclusive Indian cities.”
As Bengaluru continues its transformation into a global tech and innovation hub, the operationalization of the Yellow Line promises to enhance urban mobility, boost economic activity, and mark a significant stride in India's metro rail journey.
