Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): In a major boost to Mumbai’s public transport infrastructure, Phase 2 of the Mumbai Metro Aqua Line (Line 3) will open to the public on May 10, connecting Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to Acharya Atre Chowk (Worli) via a 9.77-kilometre underground corridor.
The new section of Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ corridor, introduces six new underground stations—Dharavi, Shitladevi, Dadar, Siddhivinayak, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk—bringing faster, smoother, and more efficient travel options for daily commuters.
Inaugurated today by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, this second phase marks a key milestone in Mumbai’s first fully underground metro line. “The eagerly awaited Phase 2A of Mumbai Metro Line 3 will open to the public tomorrow, offering faster access and critical connectivity between key residential, commercial, and religious hubs,” said CM Fadnavis during the launch.
Key Highlights of Mumbai Metro Line 3 Phase 2:
Length: 9.77 km underground stretch
Stations: Dharavi, Shitladevi, Dadar, Siddhivinayak, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk
Commute time: Approx. 15 minutes 20 seconds from BKC to Worli
Daily service: 8 trains running 244 trips per day
Expected ridership: Over 13 lakh passengers daily upon full completion
This new section offers seamless connectivity to densely populated neighborhoods and landmarks such as Siddhivinayak Temple and Dadar, known for their cultural, commercial, and religious significance.
The 33-km Mumbai Metro Line 3 is being developed in multiple phases. The first 13-km stretch opened in October 2024, and the final segment—from Worli to Cuffe Parade—is expected to be completed by August 2025, with an inauguration planned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
When fully operational, Metro Line 3 will run from Cuffe Parade in Colaba to Aarey near SEEPZ, significantly reducing road congestion and cutting down travel times across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
