Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) took a significant step towards enhancing regional connectivity by signing a Contract Agreement for the selection of a consultant. The agreement focuses on the preparation of a Feasibility Study Report for the introduction of a Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) connecting Hosur with Bommasandra. The contract, valued at Rs 29.44 lakhs, was officially inked on January 23, 2024, with the joint venture of Balaji Railroad Systems Private Limited and Habog Consultants Private Limited.
The proposed MRTS corridor spans approximately 20 km, representing an interstate project that traverses both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Specifically, the corridor covers 8 km in Tamil Nadu and 12 km in Karnataka, with Attibele serving as a pivotal point. The project aims to enhance transportation links, fostering seamless interstate travel.
The comprehensive scope of work outlined in the agreement encompasses a series of crucial tasks. These include conducting various traffic surveys, updating the existing Travel Demand Model, and forecasting travel demand for a horizon period of 30 years at 5-year intervals. Additionally, the consultants will be responsible for estimating ridership along the proposed corridor, crucial information that will inform the project's planning and execution phases.
The Contract Agreement was signed in the presence of key officials, including M.A. Siddique, IAS, Managing Director of CMRL, and T. Archunan, IRSE - Director (Projects) of CMRL, the consulting firms were also present during the signing ceremony, emphasizing the collaborative effort and commitment to advancing regional transportation infrastructure.. Representing the parties involved in the contract, T. Livingstone Eliazer, Chief General Manager (PP&D) signed on behalf of CMRL, while John Rajkumar (Chief- Corporate Strategy & New Initiatives - Balaji Railroad Systems Private Limited) and KP Gopakumar (Director/Chief Financial Officer - Habog Consultants Private Limited) signed on behalf of the joint venture (JV).
As the Feasibility Study commences, this initiative represents a crucial step towards realizing a more efficient and interconnected Mass Rapid Transit System for the benefit of commuters in the region.
