Dr Sanjay Mukherjee takes charge of Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA, Mumbai

Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): The Maharashtra Government has appointed 1996-batch IAS officer from Maharashtra cadre Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee as new Metropolitan Commissioner of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) vice SVR Srinivas, IAS on 2nd June 2023. 1991-batch Sr. IAS Officer SVR Srinivas has been now posted as the officer on special duty (OSD) for the Dharavi Redevelopment Project. Dr. Mukherjee will also act as Chairman & Managing Director of Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL).

Dr. Mukherjee took the charge of new Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA with effect from 5th June 2023. "Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, I.A.S., today took the charge of Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA. Today also being World Environment Day, he expressed his commitment to the sustainable development of Mumbai Metropolitan Region," tweeted MMRDA.

Prior posting to MMRDA, Dr. Mukherjee was serving as Vice Chairman & Managing Director of City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO Ltd). He was also heading the Navi Mumbai Metro Rail Project.

He secured his Bachelor’s degree in Surgery, MBBS, from Nagpur’s Government Medical College, besides a short-term course on Public Finance from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, Chartered Financial Analyst in Finance from Institute of Chartered Financial Analyst of India and Degree of Public Administration and Finance from Toronto University.

Dr. Mukherjee earlier worked as secretary at medical education, food and drug administration and department of cultural affairs, Maharashtra; additional commissioner (projects) at Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation; commissioner at Maharashtra State Excise Department; joint managing director at Maharashtra Airport Development Company; commissioner at Jalgaon Municipal Corporation and additional commissioner at Nagpur Municipal Corporation.

Dr. Mukherjee hails from the Nagpur, Maharashtra.
