Dubai, UAE (Metro Rail Today): Construction of the Dubai Metro Blue Line has reached 10 per cent progress within just five months of work, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Sunday. With an accelerated construction strategy and deployment of large-scale workforce and engineering expertise, the project is on track to achieve 30 per cent completion by the end of next year.
RTA confirmed that nearly 3,000 workers and over 500 engineers are currently spread across 12 active work sites, aiming to complete the landmark metro line by 9 September 2029. The new corridor will significantly improve connectivity between Dubai’s key residential, economic, educational, and industrial districts while supporting the emirate’s long-term development vision.
A 30-Km Line Connecting Rapidly Developing Corridors
The 30-km Blue Line includes 14 stations and is designed to operate in two major directions. The first alignment begins at Creek Interchange Station on the Green Line in Al Jaddaf and passes through Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, and Ras Al Khor Industrial Area before reaching International City (1), which will feature an underground interchange station. It continues through International City (2) and (3), Dubai Silicon Oasis, and concludes at Dubai Academic City. This segment accounts for 21 km and 10 stations.
The second alignment originates from Centrepoint Interchange Station on the Red Line in Al Rashidiya, travelling through Mirdif and Al Warqa before connecting to the interchange station at International City (1). Covering 9 km, it includes four stations and supports increased access to fast-growing eastern suburbs. The project will also include a new depot and maintenance facility in Al Ruwayyah 3.
Celebrating the early milestone, Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said the Blue Line would offer transformative mobility advantages. “The line connects the Red and Green Lines of the Dubai Metro and serves areas expected to accommodate around one million residents by 2040. It will also provide direct journeys to Dubai International Airport in just 20 minutes,” he noted. He added that the project strengthens Dubai’s ‘20-minute city’ vision—ensuring that 80 per cent of essential services can be accessed within a 20-minute travel radius.
Major Civil Works Already in Motion
Construction teams have completed more than 260 deep foundations at multiple locations, while excavation exceeding 400,000 cubic metres is underway at station sites across International City (1), (2), and (3). In Dubai Academic City, several station columns are already standing. Retaining walls at key underground stations are also nearing completion, enabling the next phase of excavation and structural progress.
To support the immense scale of construction, the project consortium has set up two ready-mix concrete plants, along with yards for producing and storing precast components in Al Ruwayyah 3 and International City. This approach ensures tight quality control, reliable material supply, improved logistics, and shorter construction timelines. Notably, the consortium has recorded over three million work hours without any fatalities, underscoring its strong safety practices.
Reacting to the project’s rapid progress, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO of Urban Infra Group, said Dubai continues to set global benchmarks in urban mobility delivery. “The swift advancement of the Blue Line highlights Dubai’s commitment to world-class infrastructure. Such mega metro projects demonstrate how modern engineering, strategic planning, and safety excellence can come together to transform mobility for millions,” she said.
With its strategic route, advanced engineering methods, and strong pace of execution, the Dubai Metro Blue Line is poised to become one of the region’s most significant mobility corridors—driving seamless transit integration well into the next decade.
