Kanpur, India (Metro Rail Today): In a major step toward advancing the Kanpur Metro Phase-II project, Efkon India Private Limited has secured a ₹164 crore contract from the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRCL) for carrying out comprehensive electrical and mechanical (E&M) system works on Line 2, which spans 8.38 km from Agriculture University to Barra-8.
The Letter of Acceptance (LoA) was officially issued by UPMRC on November 7, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the expansion of Kanpur’s metro network.
UPMRCL invited bids for the E&M systems package earlier this year. The technical bids were opened on April 29, 2025, with five firms participating in the tendering process.
During the technical evaluation on September 24, one bidder was disqualified. The financial bids were opened on October 3, and after evaluation on October 24, Efkon India Private Limited emerged as the lowest bidder (L1).
Financial Bids Received:
| Firm | Bid Value |
|---|---|
| Efkon India Private Limited | ₹164 crore |
| Blue Star Limited | ₹175.9 crore |
| Kalpataru Projects International Ltd | ₹178.1 crore |
| Universal MEP Projects & Engineering Services Ltd | ₹231.4 crore |
Following this evaluation, UPMRC awarded the contract to Efkon India on November 7, 2025.
The contract covers:
Design verification and detailed engineering
Supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of:
Electrical & Mechanical (E&M) systems
Diesel Generator (DG) sets
Environmental Control System (ECS)
Tunnel Ventilation System (TVS)
Building Management System (BMS)
These systems will be deployed across three underground stations — Double Pulia, Kakadeo, and Rawatpur Railway Station — along Corridor-2 of the Kanpur Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) project.
Kanpur Metro Line 2, stretching 8.38 km, is part of the city’s long-term expansion plan aimed at improving connectivity between Agriculture University and Barra-8. The line will feature a mix of underground and elevated sections, ensuring faster, safer, and greener transport options for commuters.
Once completed, the corridor will ease congestion on Kanpur’s major arterial roads and improve access to key residential and institutional areas.
“Efkon India’s win demonstrates growing competition and expertise among Indian firms in delivering integrated E&M systems for metro networks,” said Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO of Urban Infra Group. “This milestone reinforces UPMRC’s commitment to building smart, energy-efficient metro infrastructure that enhances urban mobility in Uttar Pradesh.”
The inclusion of advanced ventilation, power management, and automation systems aligns with UPMRC’s vision of developing energy-efficient and passenger-friendly metro systems across the state. Once operational, Line 2 will seamlessly integrate with Line 1 (IIT Kanpur–Motijheel–Nayaganj–Moti Jheel), strengthening the metro’s role as Kanpur’s backbone of sustainable transport.
