Pune, India (Metro Rail Today): Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (Maha-Metro) has selected the Egis Rail – AECOM India – Doyen Engineering Services joint venture as the preferred bidder for the General Consultancy contract of the Pune Metro Phase 2 project. The contract, identified as Package Consul-01, was awarded through the Quality and Cost Based Selection (QCBS) method, with the consortium securing the highest combined technical and financial score of 139.77 out of 150, despite not being the lowest financial bidder.
This selection marks a crucial step forward for Pune Metro’s long-awaited Phase 2 expansion. The consultancy package includes detailed design, supervision, safety oversight, quality assurance, and contract management services for both the Phase 1A extension and newly planned corridors under Phase 2. Maha-Metro had invited bids for this engagement in October 2024, and technical bids were opened in January 2025, attracting submissions from six major consortia. Financial bids were evaluated earlier this week, confirming the Egis-AECOM-Doyen JV’s final bid at ₹329.96 crore. Here is score position of each consortia of this contract:-
Phase 2 of the Pune Metro project, which had been in the planning stages since at least 2021, has undergone several modifications. Initially proposed with 82.5 km of new routes, parts of the expansion—specifically the Vanaz–Chandni Chowk and Ramwadi–Wagholi extensions—have now been absorbed into the Phase 1A project. These adjustments reflect the state's evolving transport priorities and a push to fast-track critical infrastructure.
The consultancy scope now covers four corridors under Phase 1A to Bhakti Shakti (Nigdi), Katraj, Chandni Chowk, and Wagholi, as well as several major alignments under Phase 2. These include the 25.818 km Khadakwasla–Swargate–Hadapsar–Kharadi line with 22 stations, the 6.118 km Nal Stop–Warje–Manik Baug line with 6 stations, the 11.352 km Hadapsar–Loni Kalbhor corridor, and a 5.573 km spur from Hadapsar Bus Depot to Sasvad Road.
Although the official cost estimate by Maha-Metro remains undisclosed, the appointment of a dedicated General Consultant is expected to accelerate project execution and ensure high standards across engineering, safety, and project management functions.
While Line-4 (Civil Court–Loni Kalbhor) proposed by PMRDA is not included in Phase 2, it will share a 4.6 km alignment with Line-5 between Pul Gate and Hadapsar. Line-4, along with the under-construction Line-3 (Hinjawadi–Civil Court), will be implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
This is not the first time Maha-Metro has attempted to onboard a General Consultant for Pune Metro Phase 2. In July 2020, a joint venture of AECOM, SYSTRA, and CEG was declared the sole bidder for a mega GC contract that also included Nagpur Metro Phase 2 and Thane Metro. However, due to pending approvals, the Pune and Thane portions were later de-scoped.
