Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): Four firms have submitted bids for the electrical and mechanical (E&M) installation works at the Bangalore Metro’s Challaghatta and Airport Depots. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) opened the technical bids on October 1, 2024, marking a significant step in the ongoing development of the metro infrastructure.
The Challaghatta Depot, part of the Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project for the Purple Line, is currently under construction along Mysore Road by a joint venture between RITES Ltd and Power Mech Projects. This project was awarded a contract worth ₹499.41 crore in October 2022. Meanwhile, the Airport Depot, located at Doddajala (or Shettigere) for the Blue Line under Phase 2B, is being constructed by J Kumar Infraprojects and AIC Infrastructures JV, with a contract value of ₹182.33 crore awarded in March 2023.
The newly bid Package 3 encompasses a range of system installation works, including electrical systems, cabling, lighting, fire safety measures, HVAC installation, and UPS systems for both depots. BMRCL had called for bids in August 2024, although the estimated cost for the package remains undisclosed, with a project completion deadline set at 18 months.
The bids are now undergoing technical evaluation, a process that may take about a month to complete. Following this evaluation, the financial bids of those who qualify technically will be opened to determine the lowest bidder and likely contractor for the project.
As the Challaghatta Depot prepares to play a crucial role in the operation of the Purple Line, it will work in conjunction with the Kadugodi Depot. The Baiyappanahalli Depot is expected to be repurposed to support the 57 km Blue Line, which will connect Silkboard, KR Puram, and Kempegowda International Airport.
With these developments, Bangalore Metro continues to enhance its infrastructure, promising improved connectivity and efficiency for commuters in the region.
