Noida, India (Metro Rail Today): Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday announced that the Union Cabinet has approved three railway multitracking projects worth approximately ₹18,509 crore, alongside the 11.56 km extension of the Noida Metro corridor. The decisions are aimed at expanding rail capacity, lowering logistics costs and strengthening urban connectivity.
The Cabinet has cleared the 11.56 km extension of the Noida Metro from Sector 142 to Botanical Garden at an estimated cost of ₹2,372 crore. The elevated corridor will add eight new stations, expanding the operational metro network in Noida and Greater Noida to 61.62 km.
The new stretch will provide crucial interchange connectivity at Botanical Garden with the Blue and Magenta Lines of the Delhi Metro, creating seamless integration with Delhi’s metro network. This is expected to significantly improve last-mile access and multimodal connectivity for commuters.
The corridor runs along the Noida–Greater Noida Expressway and will serve major commercial and IT hubs, including campuses of Microsoft, TCS, Infosys, Adobe and Oracle, along with educational institutions, healthcare facilities and growing residential clusters.
According to the government, the extension is expected to ease road congestion, reduce travel time, encourage greater public transport adoption and stimulate economic activity around the new metro stations.
In addition to the metro expansion, the Cabinet approved three railway multitracking projects worth approximately ₹18,509 crore. These projects are designed to enhance line capacity, streamline freight movement and reduce logistics costs, supporting both passenger and freight operations across key corridors.
The multitracking works are expected to decongest busy rail routes, improve operational efficiency and contribute to faster and more reliable transportation of goods, aligning with the government’s broader infrastructure and economic growth strategy.
The approvals reflect the Centre’s continued focus on expanding both urban metro systems and core railway infrastructure as part of its integrated mobility and logistics development agenda.
