Himcon Engineers bags Finishing and PEB Roof Contract for Patna Metro Stations

Patna, India (Metro Rail Today): In a recent development, Himcon Engineers India emerged as the lowest bidder for Contract PC-01A, responsible for architectural finishing and pre-engineered building (PEB) roofs at five key stations along the Priority Corridor of Patna Metro Phase 1. The priority corridor, spanning from Malahi Pakri to New ISBT, covers a critical 14.05 km section of Line-2, connecting Patna Junction Railway Station to New ISBT.

The elevated stations covered under this contract are strategically located at Malahi Pakri, Khemni Chak (interchange station with Line-1), Bhoothnath, Zero Mile, and New ISBT. The civil construction for this segment (Package PC-01) was awarded to NCC Ltd. in September 2020, boasting a 30-month deadline. Notably, the project marked a significant milestone with the launch of the first of 310 U-girders for the viaduct in January 2023.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) invited bids for Contract PC-01A in August 2023, estimating the project at Rs. 74.95 crore with a 2-year deadline. Seven reputable firms participated in the bidding process, and the financial bid values were as follows:

  • Himcon Engineers India: Rs. 68.45 crore
  • Metcon India Realty and Infrastructure: Rs. 69.70 crore
  • Quality Buildcon: Rs. 69.73 crore
  • B.Rai Construction Company: Rs. 70.97 crore
  • Godrej and Boyce Mfg. Co.: Rs. 80.20 crore
  • Sam India Builtwell: Rs. 89.05 crore
  • Premco Rail Engineers: Rs. 103.18 crore

The scope for contract PC-01A includes architectural finishing works, DFSE (Drainage, Firefighting, and Electrical), roof sheeting of pre-engineered building (PEB) structures, and development of external facades, water supply, sewage, drainage, and site development works at the five elevated stations.

Himcon Engineers' winning bid of Rs. 68.45 crore, below DMRC's estimated cost, positions the company as the front runner for the contract. With the financial bid evaluation expected to be swift, the contract award is anticipated in the coming weeks.

However, the Patna Metro project has faced significant delays, with a pending tender notice for the rolling stock (train) contract, indicating a potential delay of at least two years before trial runs commence. Additionally, a tender notice for the construction of Line-1's approximately 8 km underground section is pending, projecting a potential completion timeline of at least five years for Phase 1.

Himcon Engineers' successful bid signifies progress in the Patna Metro Phase 1 project, bringing the city closer to enhanced urban transportation infrastructure. As the contract is finalized, stakeholders look forward to overcoming challenges and witnessing the realization of this crucial metro network.
