Hyderabad, India (Metro Rail Today): In a major step towards enhancing urban mobility, the Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) announced on Thursday that the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for Phase 2B of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project have been finalised. The ambitious metro expansion will span 86.1 kilometers with an estimated budget of ₹19,579 crore, aiming to significantly reduce traffic congestion and travel time across key areas of the city.
The new phase is set to benefit thousands of commuters by extending metro connectivity to underserved regions. As part of this expansion, three major corridors have been planned: JBS to Medchal, JBS to Shameerpet, and Airport to Future City. The DPRs for these corridors were approved by HAML on May 8, and are currently under review by the Telangana state government.
Speaking to the media, HAML Managing Director NVS Reddy confirmed that the DPRs have been prepared in line with central government guidelines, incorporating traffic demand projections and construction benchmarks from other states. "The reports were submitted to the state government and will be forwarded to the central government post-approval," he said.
Reddy also revealed that plans are underway to develop the JBS (Jubilee Bus Station) region into an international transport hub, aligning with the broader vision of integrated urban transport. This comes in light of recent announcements by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who emphasized the government's commitment to expanding metro connectivity and decongesting Hyderabad’s road network.
The final project details are expected to be made public once the state government grants its approval. The Hyderabad Metro Phase 2B promises to be a game-changer for the city’s public transport landscape, enhancing last-mile connectivity and promoting sustainable urban development.
Stay tuned for more updates on this transformative infrastructure project.
