Kapurthala, India (Metro Rail Today): A significant leap in India's rail infrastructure unfolded as the Indian Railways' Rail Coach Factory (RCF) Kapurthala in Punjab unveiled the coaches of the Vande Metro. This milestone marks a pivotal moment in India's journey towards modern transportation solutions. The introduction of the Vande Metro heralds a new era of modern rail travel in India. Scheduled for testing in July this year, this innovative metro system is poised to revolutionize urban connectivity and passenger experience.
Inspired by the success of the Vande Bharat Express, the Vande Metro is the latest offering from Indian Railways for short-distance intercity travel. Manufactured by Rail Coach Factory (RCF) Kapurthala and Integral Coach Factory (ICF) Chennai, the Vande Metro prototype is undergoing trials, with full readiness expected by June this year.
Similar to its predecessor, the Vande Metro boasts several passenger comforts and world-class amenities. Fully air-conditioned with automatic entry and exit doors, the Vande Metro offers a dust-free environment and easier movement between coaches through fully sealed gangways. With features such as mobile charging sockets, route indicator displays, and wider panoramic sealed windows, passengers can expect a comfortable and enjoyable travel experience.
The Vande Metro utilizes faster acceleration and deceleration, allowing it to operate at a maximum speed of 130 kmph, significantly faster than existing Mainline EMUs. Equipped with the KAVACH train anti-collision system, the Vande Metro ensures passenger safety and operational efficiency.
With routes spanning cities like Agra-Mathura, Delhi-Rewari, Lucknow-Kanpur, and Tirupati-Chennai, the Vande Metro is set to cater to the growing demand for faster and more comfortable intercity travel. Railway officials have indicated that the train will have either 12 or 16 coaches, depending on route demand.
As India continues its journey towards modernization and development, initiatives like the Vande Bharat Metro underscore the nation's commitment to advancing its rail infrastructure. With a focus on innovation, efficiency, and passenger convenience, the Vande Metro represents a significant stride towards realizing India's vision of a modern and interconnected transportation network.
