Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) issued a letter of acceptance (LoA) worth Rs 963 crores to Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) after negotiations for the construction of a 10 km elevated viaduct including 10 metro stations between Nehru Nagar and Sholinganallur on Corridor 3 of Chennai Metro Rail Project, Phase 2.
The scope of work includes the design and construction of an elevated viaduct (approximate length-10 km) including an elevated ramp and ten (10) elevated metro stations at Nehru Nagar, Kandanchavadi Perungudi, Thoraipakkam, Mettukuppam, PTC Colony, Okkiyampet, Karapakkam, Okkiyam Thoraipakkam and Shalinganagallur for Corridor 3 of Chennai Metro Rail Project, Phase 2.
The tender notice for this contract package (CP08/EV-01/RT01/2021) was invited in December 2021 with a 36-month work completion deadline. Technical bids were opened in February 2022 and financial bids were opened on April 12, 2022. A total of six bidders had participated in this contract package. L&T emerged as the lowest bidder after the opening of financial bids.

This contract package will be funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This is part of 45.813 km (19.09 km elevated & 26.72 km underground) long Corridor 3 of Chennai Metro which will connect Madhavaram to SIPCOT 2 with 49 stations.
