Pune, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development for the Pune Metro Phase 1 project, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) extended its trial runs to the Ramwadi Station on Reach 3. This 5.94 km route, which stretches from Ruby Hall Clinic Station to Ramwadi Station, is a part of the larger 31.24 km Pune Metro Phase 1 project.
Maha Metro's dedicated team conducted these trial runs, utilizing one of their 3-coach Titagarh train sets, which was operated at a speed of 10 kmph. The journey commenced from the Vanaz (Hill View) Depot and spanned all the way to Ramwadi in eastern Pune.
The primary objective of this initial run was to assess Schedule of Dimensions (SOD) clearances and observe how the train interacted with the civil structure. This rigorous examination ensures that there are no physical obstructions or issues along the route, guaranteeing the safety and efficiency of the metro system.
This latest development marks the final section of the 14.665 km Aqua Line that is yet to open for commercial operations. It encompasses four elevated stations located at Bund Garden, Yerawada, Kalyani Nagar, and Ramwadi. Additionally, it includes a noteworthy 310-meter-long bridge constructed over the Mula-Mutha River near Bund Garden.
The viaduct for this section was constructed by J Kumar Infraprojects under a contract awarded in August 2018, amounting to Rs 388.58 crore. The stations along the route were built by Afcons – SPCPL JV, under a contract awarded in July 2018.
As architectural finishing works progress within the stations, it is anticipated that this section of the Phase 1 project will open for public use in 2024, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. This development brings the city of Pune closer to experiencing the benefits of an efficient and modern metro system.
