Kolkata, India (Metro Rail Today): Metro Railway Kolkata has invited bids for a major infrastructure modernisation project worth ₹345.76 crore aimed at upgrading its power supply systems. The project involves the replacement and upgradation of equipment at 750V DC traction substations, including the third rail and associated power cables, along with the conversion of existing 11 kV auxiliary substations to 33 kV auxiliary substations under Phase 1.
The tender notice bearing number ELM_131R_PSWORK_Dt19-2-26, was issued on 20 February 2026 under an open bidding process following a two-packet system. The completion period for the project has been set at 36 months from the date of commencement.
Bidders are required to submit an Earnest Money Deposit of ₹1 crore, while the cost of the tender document has been kept nil. The bid submission window is scheduled from 6 March to 20 March 2026 up to 11:00 hours. A pre-bid meeting will be held on 27 February 2026 at 12:00 hours. The bid validity period is 90 days from the closing date. The tender has been invited by the Chief Electrical Engineer/HQ, Metro Railway Kolkata.
The scope of work includes comprehensive replacement and upgradation of 750V DC traction substation equipment, including third rail and power cables, along with the upgradation of 11 kV auxiliary substations to 33 kV auxiliary substations as part of Phase 1 implementation.
This modernisation initiative is strategically significant for Kolkata Metro, India’s oldest metro system. Upgrading ageing electrical infrastructure to a higher-capacity 33 kV system is expected to significantly enhance power supply reliability, operational efficiency and safety standards across the network. The project forms a key part of Metro Railway Kolkata’s efforts to strengthen core infrastructure and ensure sustainable long-term operations.
