Patna Metro completes First Trial Run on Line 2, Public launch expected soon

Patna, India (Metro Rail Today): In a historic step for Bihar’s urban transport development, the first trial run of Patna Metro’s Line-2 (Blue Line – Priority Corridor) was successfully conducted on 7th September 2025. The trial marks the beginning of a new era for the capital city, which is now poised to become the latest Indian city to join the country’s expanding metro rail network.

The priority corridor, a 6.49 km elevated stretch from Malahi Pakri to New ISBT, underwent comprehensive testing of rolling stock, tracks, overhead electrification (OHE), automatic door systems, and communications. The trial train, featuring iconic local cultural motifs such as the Golghar, ran smoothly from Patna Metro Depot to Bhoothnath Station, assuring officials and engineers of the system’s operational readiness.

Following the successful trials, authorities have confirmed that commercial operations on Line-2 are expected to begin later in September 2025, initially covering four key stations: Malahi Pakri, Bhoothnath, Zero Mile, and New ISBT. The fifth station on this stretch, Khemnichak, is set to open by October, pending resolution of land acquisition and drainage-related delays.

Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO of Urban Infra Group, praised the breakthrough, “The successful trial of Patna Metro reflects a milestone not only for the city but also for India’s transit modernization journey. It brings cleaner, smarter, and more inclusive mobility solutions to Bihar, with direct benefits for commuters, businesses, and the environment.”

A First for Bihar: Metro Connectivity and Smart Mobility

Patna Metro’s launch will mark Bihar’s first-ever metro service, offering a modern, clean, and affordable alternative to road-based transport. With fares ranging from ₹15 to ₹30 and improved last-mile connectivity, the system is expected to:

  • Significantly reduce road congestion

  • Promote green and sustainable mobility

  • Create employment and economic opportunities

  • Enhance overall quality of life for the city’s residents

The Urban Development Minister of Bihar, Shri Jibesh Kumar, recently inspected the Zero Mile station and the depot, expressing satisfaction over the pace of work and readiness for operations.

With future phases under planning, including potential extensions to Bihta Airport, the Patna Metro is envisioned as a long-term backbone for the city's public transportation system. As both corridors expand, they will connect residential zones, commercial centers, educational institutions, and transport hubs, transforming the way people move across the state capital.
