Patna Metro to extend operations on 6.5 km ISBT - Malahi Pakadi stretch by January 2026

Patna, Vietnam (Metro Rail Today): The Patna Metro project is moving steadily toward a significant milestone, with construction of the Malahi Pakadi station now in its final stages and preparations underway for operations to begin by January 2026. Once the new segment is inaugurated, the metro corridor will extend to 6.5 kilometres, connecting ISBT to Malahi Pakadi via Khemnichak and onward to Bhootnath, expanding the reach of Bihar’s first urban rail network.

The civil and structural works at the Malahi Pakadi station are almost complete and scheduled to finish by December. Officials expect that the new station will be ready for public use soon after the planned inauguration early next year. The Patna Metro has been operational on a 2.9-kilometre stretch between ISBT and Bhootnath since October 6, marking the first phase of the corridor’s development.

However, trains will not halt at Khemnichak station for now, as construction on this facility has not yet begun due to delays in land acquisition. Authorities indicated that the station’s development will take approximately six months once the required land is secured. Until then, metro services will operate directly between ISBT, Malahi Pakadi and Bhootnath without stopping at Khemnichak.

Industry leaders believe the pace of progress reflects the growing commitment to transforming Patna’s urban transport landscape. “The expansion of Patna Metro is a crucial step toward modern, reliable and high-capacity public transit for the city. Completing key stations on schedule will significantly enhance daily mobility and support the city’s long-term development goals,” said Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO of Urban Infra Group.

With the extended route nearing readiness, fare structures have also been finalised based on travel distance. Commuters will continue to pay Rs 15 for journeys up to three kilometres, while the fare for distances between three and six kilometres will be Rs 30. Currently, passengers travelling between Bhootnath and ISBT pay Rs 15, but once services begin to Malahi Pakadi, the fare for the full stretch from ISBT to Malahi Pakadi will be Rs 30.

The expansion marks a major leap in Patna’s aspiration to build a modern rapid transit system capable of easing congestion, reducing travel times and improving connectivity across key city nodes. As construction activities accelerate and operational preparations gain momentum, the Patna Metro is poised to deliver a more robust public transport experience in the months ahead.
