Nagpur, India (Metro Rail Today): Rahee Infratech Limited has secured a major systems contract for the Nagpur Metro Phase 2 expansion, receiving the Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from Maha-Metro for the design, supply and installation of track infrastructure across multiple key sections of the project. The award follows a competitive bidding process that began in November 2024 and concluded after several rounds of technical and financial evaluation.
Maha-Metro had invited bids for the track contract with a completion deadline of 913 days. When technical bids were opened on 1 November 2024, two firms were in the fray. Their submissions were evaluated in January 2025, and financial bids were subsequently opened on 27 January 2025. During the financial review completed on 20 March 2025, Rahee Infratech emerged as the lowest bidder with an offer of ₹174.1 crore, significantly lower than the ₹217.4-crore bid submitted by Texmaco Rail and Engineering Limited. The formal LoA was issued to Rahee Infratech on 25 November 2025.
The contract covers the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of ballasted and ballastless track systems across both at-grade and elevated sections of Nagpur Metro Phase 2. This includes the provision of 1080 Grade Head-Hardened rails, track fastenings, 1 in 9 R300 turnouts in both ballasted and ballastless configurations, derailing switches and other associated works across Reach 1A, Reach 2A and Reach 4A. The extensive scope reflects the increasing emphasis on high-performance track technology in upcoming metro corridors, ensuring smoother operations, reduced maintenance and improved riding comfort.
Nagpur Metro Phase 2 spans 43.8 km and represents a strategic extension of the city’s existing metro network developed under Phase 1. The new expansion will extend the Orange and Aqua Lines to key regional growth zones including Kanhan in the north, Butibori MIDC in the south, Transport Nagar in the east and Hingna in the west. The expanded network will connect emerging industrial hubs, residential clusters and freight zones, strengthening Nagpur’s position as a central mobility hub in Maharashtra. Phase 2 consists of four extensions: Khapri to MIDC ESR, Automotive Square to Kanhan River, Prajapati Nagar to Transport Nagar and Lokmanya Nagar to Hingna, creating a more comprehensive and integrated transit system for the city.
Offering her perspective on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said, “Nagpur Metro Phase 2 is an important step in shaping the mobility future of central India, and the award of the track contract to Rahee Infratech marks a decisive move toward accelerating project delivery. High-quality track systems are the backbone of metro operations, and this development reflects the commitment to reliability, safety and long-term performance that modern urban rail projects demand.”
With the issuance of this LoA, Maha-Metro is expected to intensify construction across Phase 2’s multiple corridors, paving the way for faster progress and ensuring that Nagpur’s rapidly expanding metro network remains aligned with the region’s urbanisation and mobility requirements.
