Rahee Infratech commences Track Work on Mumbai Metro Line 9 at Miragaon

Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development for Mumbai's expanding metro network, Rahee Infratech has initiated the ballastless track casting for Mumbai Metro Line-9. The work commenced on Thursday night at Miragaon, marking a crucial step in the construction of this pivotal line. Line-9, part of the city's ambitious metro expansion, will span 11.38 kilometers and connect Dahisar East with Mira Bhayandar through eight elevated stations.

Progress on Mumbai Metro’s Red Line Extension

The track work being undertaken by Rahee Infratech is a key component of Package CA-167. This package involves the installation of standard gauge rails, measuring 1435 mm, on the northern section of the new 31.05 km Red Line. This line is envisioned to be a vital corridor in Mumbai's metro network, eventually linking Mira Bhayandar, Dahisar East, Andheri East, and CSMIA Terminal 2 through a total of 23 stations.

The elevated section of Line-9, which is being constructed by J Kumar Infraprojects under civil Package CA-48, has been in progress since March 2020. A major milestone was achieved in April 2021 with the launch of the first U-girder for the line’s viaduct. The viaduct will feature several double-decker sections, enhancing the line’s capacity and functionality.

Contract Details and Timeline

In March 2024, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) awarded Rahee Infratech a track-work contract worth ₹77.85 crore for Line-9. The contract stipulates a completion deadline of 1.5 years, aligning with the broader schedule for the metro expansion. The commencement of track casting at Miragaon is a crucial step toward meeting this timeline.

Additionally, in July 2024, Leena Powertech Engineers emerged as the lowest bidder for the electrification contract (CA-176) for both Line-7A and Line-9. With electrification being a critical aspect of metro operations, this contract will ensure that the new lines are equipped with the necessary power infrastructure.

Expected Timeline for Commissioning

Given the scale and complexity of the project, it is estimated that it will take approximately 2.5 years before both extensions of the Red Line are fully commissioned and operational. The completion of track work and electrification will play a pivotal role in achieving this timeline, contributing to Mumbai's ongoing efforts to enhance its public transportation network.
