Kanpur, India (Metro Rail Today): In a groundbreaking feat for the Kanpur Metro's Corridor-1, the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) "Nana" has etched its name in history. On September 10, 2023, 'Nana' achieved the improbable, reaching the under-construction Bada Chauraha Metro station from Naveen Market, constructing a remarkable 510-meter tunnel on the 'up-line' in a mere 57 days, thanks to the unswerving dedication of the UPMRC team.
Launched from Naveen Market Metro Station on July 15, 2023, 'Nana' accomplished the installation of 362 rings and the creation of a 510-meter-long 'up-line' tunnel, linking Naveen Market to Bada Chauraha. The timeline is nothing short of astonishing, marking a testament to human engineering prowess.
The journey doesn't end here. 'Nana' will now be transported to the launching shaft at McRobertganj, where it will recommence tunnel construction towards Chuniganj Metro Station. Simultaneously, its counterpart, 'Tatya' TBM, is making headway, working on a 'down-line' tunnel connecting Naveen Market and Bada Chauraha. 'Tatya' has achieved a commendable 300-meter tunneling feat, assembling 210 rings along the route.
The UPMRC team's relentless dedication earned them accolades. Managing Director Sushil Kumar expressed profound appreciation for the pace of tunnel construction under the Kanpur Metro project. The completion of the 'up-line' tunnel from Naveen Market to Bada Chauraha in under two months is a testament to the team's unwavering commitment. It instills confidence in the timely realization of Corridor-1 of the Kanpur Metro project.
Let's revisit the milestones achieved by 'Nana' and 'Tatya' TBMs:
These accomplishments and the swift tunnel construction underscore the dedication and expertise of the teams involved. The Kanpur Metro project advances steadily, promising efficient and modern metro connectivity for the city.
Beyond the Chunniganj-Nayaganj underground section, the project extends to the underground section from Kanpur Central to Transport Nagar and the elevated metro section from Baradevi to Naubasta under Corridor-1. This signals a transformative milestone for the city's transportation infrastructure.
The saga of 'Nana' continues, as it burrows through challenges, making history, and transforming the future of Kanpur's transportation.
