Kanpur, India (Metro Rail Today): Under the 4 km (approx.) long Chunniganj-Nayaganj underground section of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project, today ‘Tatya' Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) achieved its second breakthrough. With this, after Bada Chauraha to Nayaganj, now both the tunnels from Chunniganj to Naveen Market have also been completed. TBM Tatya now reached Naveen Market after completing the construction of about 728 meters of down-line tunnel from Chunniganj.
Tatya TBM was launched on March 27, 2023, from the launching shaft built at Chunniganj Metro Station. In a short 3.5 months, Tatya TBM completed the erection of 520 rings. Now this TBM will be dragged from the platform level of Naveen Market Metro Station i.e. inside the under-construction underground station from one end to the other and then relaunched to construct a tunnel towards Bada Chauraha Metro Station.
Earlier, 'Nana' TBM had also achieved its 2nd breakthrough on 14th June 2023 when it arrived at Naveen Market Metro station from Chunniganj after constructing a tunnel up-line. This TBM has been further dragged to the designated place for tunnel construction up to Bada Chauraha. Preparations are being made to launch it in the coming few days.
Congratulating the project team on the breakthrough, Sushil Kumar, Managing Director of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) said, “The pace of tunnel construction under the Kanpur Metro Project is commendable. After Bada Chauraha to Nayaganj, now both the tunnels from Chunniganj to Naveen Market have been successfully constructed. By achieving this feat in a short span of 3.5 months, the team of UPMRC has once again proved its commitment. We are confident that this pace of construction works on the entire Corridor-I of the Kanpur Metro Project will continue further and the construction works will be completed on time.
Under Corridor-I of Kanpur Metro, the construction of the underground section from Kanpur Central to Transport Nagar and the elevated section from Baradevi to Naubasta, besides the Chunniganj-Nayaganj underground section, is also progressing at a fast pace.
