Trial run commences on Noapara – Dum Dum Cantt Stretch of Kolkata Metro Rail Project

Kolkata, India (Metro Rail Today): Exciting developments unfold as Kolkata Metro's Yellow Line progresses with trial runs on its 6.87 km stretch, specifically the 3 km Noapara – Dum Dum Cantonment section. This significant step comes just ahead of the inauguration of three new sections within the Kolkata Metro network, marking a crucial milestone in the city's expanding urban transportation system.

The commencement of trial runs on the Yellow Line's Noapara – Dum Dum Cantonment section follows a noteworthy history, as the construction contract, amounting to Rs 127 crore, was awarded to Senbo Engineering in June 2011. The awarded contract focused on the viaduct between Kestopur Khal (Canal) and the existing ramp of the erstwhile Circular Railway’s viaduct. The project encountered challenges related to land acquisitions along the canal's alignment, adding complexity to the timeline.

A Medha Servo-built train, operating at low speed, undertook this trial run with the primary objective of assessing Schedule of Dimensions (SOD) clearances and ensuring smooth interaction between the train and the civil structure. The meticulous inspection aimed to identify and eliminate any potential physical obstructions along the 3 km route.

The route map of Kolkata Metro's Yellow Line spans from Noapara to Biman Bandar, encompassing vital segments of the city's landscape. Notably, the trial run showcased promising progress, as evident in videos capturing the inaugural run and snaps of Dum Dum Cantt. Station, portraying completed roof, interior, and exterior architectural finishing works.

Ongoing construction activity between Dum Dum Cantt. and Jessore Road stations were also highlighted in recent videos, providing a glimpse of the advancements along Harimohan Dutta Road. The visual documentation indicates a dedicated effort toward achieving the line's completion.

However, Kolkata Metro authorities have yet to officially announce the commencement of the trial run or disclose their operational strategy for this specific line. It remains to be seen whether services will be initiated between Noapara and Dum Dum promptly or if the inauguration will be synchronized with the comprehensive completion of the entire Yellow Line.

The commencement of trial runs on the Kolkata Metro's Yellow Line represents a significant leap forward in enhancing the city's public transportation network. As the project advances, residents and commuters eagerly await official announcements regarding the operationalization of this crucial metro line.
