Surat, India (Metro rail Today): The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRCL) has awarded a contract worth Rs 857 crore to Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) for supply of 72 Rolling Stock coaches for Surat Metro Rail Project Phase 1 on 27th June 2023.
Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd. (formerly known as Titagarh Wagons Limited) in a regulatory filing with the stock exchange said that the company has been awarded a Rs 857 crore contract for supplying 72 coaches (Package GMRC/RS2) for Surat Metro’s Phase 1 project.
Tender notice for Design, Manufacture, Supply, Testing, Commissioning and Training of 72 Nos. Standard Gauge Cars for Surat Metro Rail Phase-I Project was issued in November 2021. Technical bid was opened in March 2022 where GMRC had received single bid from Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd.
According to the terms of contract, Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd will have to start delivery of Rolling Stock trains (in DMC+TC+DMC configuration) to GMRCL for Surat Metro Rail Project in 76 weeks and complete the order in 132 weeks thereafter.
This contract package will be funded by KfW Development Bank through a loan agreement signed with Govt. of India.
The 40.35 km Phase 1 of Surat Metro consists of two lines: first Sathana to Dream City and second Bhesan to Saroli with a total of 37 stations. A total of 24 metro trainsets with 3 coaches will be deployed on these twi corridors.
This is the second major contract awarded to Titagarh in India after Pune Metro. Titagarh is supplying a total of 102 aluminium body coaches for Pune Metro Rail Project as per contract signed in August 2019. The company is also manufacturing 204 coaches through a tie-up with CRRC in 2022 for Bangalore Metro Rail Project Phase 2.
