UP Metro celebrates fifth anniversary, sets new vision for the next 3 years

Lucknow, India (Metro Rail Today): The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRCL) on 5th September 2022 celebrated Metro Diwas on the successful completion of five years of operations of metro train services in the state capital. To mark the occasion, various programs were organized at Transport Nagar Depot, Hazratganj, and CCS Airport Metro Station of Lucknow Metro.

While enumerating the achievements of the past 5 years, Sushil Kumar, Managing Director of UPMRC sets a new vision for the next 3 years on this occasion. Sushil Kumar said, "On this day 5 years ago, Hon'ble Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had flagged off the Metro. In these last 5 years, we have registered many achievements by overcoming all the challenges," said Sushil Kumar, MD, UPMRC.

He mentioned the various achievements and milestones achieved by UPMRCL in the last 5 years while addressing the officers and employees at the occasion. Some of the major achievements and accomplishments are listed here:-

  • The first metro service in Lucknow was started on 5th September 2017 on the 8.5 km long priority corridor from 'Transport Nagar to Charbagh' later it was extended to the entire 23-km 23 km North-South Corridor from 'CCS Airport to Munshipulia' started in just 4 years 6 months, 36 days ahead of the scheduled deadline on March 8, 2019, which is a record in itself.
  • The foundation stone of the Kanpur Metro project was laid on 15th September 2019 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The trial run of 'IIT Kanpur to Motijheel' of 8 km long priority corridor of Kanpur Metro was commenced on November 10, 2021, which was the fastest construction breaking even the record of Lucknow Metro. The metro operations from IIT Kanpur to Motijheel started in just 2 years and 1.5 months on December 28, 2021.
  • The Foundation stone of the Agra Metro project was laid on December 7, 2020, by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The construction work on the 6-km long priority corridor of Agra Metro from Taj East Gate to Jama Masjid is going on in full swing.
  • The Lucknow Metro has also entered its name in the Limca Book of Records for the fastest construction of the CCS Airport underground station in just 19 months and 10 days.
  • Lok Sabha committee reviewed Lucknow Metro and recommended this project as a role model for other metro projects in India.
  • Post Covid-19 pandemic, the number of passengers improved the fastest in all the metros.
  • Lucknow Metro has recorded the least number of failures with minimum staff per km in comparison to other operational metro rail systems in the country.

The Managing Director sets the new vision for the next 3 years - 

  • Metro service will start on the entire Corridor-1 of Kanpur Metro and the second phase will also start. Similarly, the 6-km-long priority corridor of Agra Metro from 'Taj East Gate to Jama Masjid' will be ready by the end of 2023 and will be operational in 2024.
  • The second corridor of Lucknow Metro will be constructed from 'Charbagh to Vasant Kunj' which will connect major places and other congested areas of old Lucknow.
  • Metro projects in Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Jhansi, Meerut, and Prayagraj will soon become a reality.

The event was concluded with the distribution of Gold & Silver medals to officials for their outstanding work records during the last year.
