From Paper to Platform: How Mumbai Metro’s Digital Ticketing Is Redefining Urban Mobility?
New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has awarded a significant track infrastructure contract worth ₹23.94 crore to Vossloh Cogifer Turnouts India Pvt. Ltd., marking an important step in the ongoing execution of Delhi Metro Phase-4. The contract covers the supply of advanced UIC-60 turnouts, scissors crossovers and check rails designed for both ballasted and ballastless track systems.
The upgrade is expected to strengthen operational reliability and enhance the efficiency of train movements across key expansion corridors.
Under the agreement, Vossloh Cogifer will supply essential components for Line-11, along with pending requirements for Line-03 (Yamuna Bank Depot), Line-08 Extension, and Line-10. These corridors form a crucial part of Phase-4, which aims to expand metro connectivity deeper into the NCR, reduce traffic congestion and support last-mile urban mobility.
The package includes:
UIC-60 turnouts (Standard Gauge and Broad Gauge)
Scissors crossovers for faster track switching
Check rails for enhanced safety in curved sections
Components compatible with both ballasted and ballastless configurations
These elements are essential for smooth track transitions, higher service frequencies and safe train operations across busy urban corridors.
DMRC has stipulated a 24-month delivery timeline, with work commencing from 8 December 2025. The project is expected to be completed by late 2027, aligning with DMRC’s accelerated infrastructure rollout for Phase-4.
The ₹23,94,26,444.41 contract value includes 18% GST, covering all applicable taxes, duties and licensing—ensuring a streamlined, comprehensive procurement framework.
Officials note that securing track components through a unified contract structure will help maintain continuity in civil and track-laying works already underway on multiple corridors.
The upgraded turnout and crossover systems are expected to deliver several operational benefits:
Enhanced inter-corridor connectivity
Improved switching capacity and depot operations at Yamuna Bank
Ability to support higher train frequencies
Better readiness for future rolling stock technologies
Speaking about the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said: “DMRC’s decision to procure advanced turnout and crossover systems reflects a forward-looking approach to network expansion. Upgrading critical track components is essential for maintaining high service reliability across Phase-4 corridors. This contract will play a vital role in ensuring that Delhi Metro continues to meet the mobility needs of a rapidly growing urban region.”
As Delhi’s metro ridership continues to grow, DMRC’s investment in high-precision track systems underscores its long-term focus on safety, reliability and smoother commuter experience.
