Nagpur, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant milestone for the Nagpur Metro Phase 2 project, the joint venture (JV) of YFC Projects and BBG Infrastructure has emerged as the lowest bidder for the C-09 package. This contract, awarded by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL or Maha-Metro), involves the construction of eight elevated stations on the Orange Line's Reach-1A segment.
The scope of work for Package C-09 covers the construction of key stations along the vital Orange Line in Nagpur, which is part of the 43.8 km Phase 2 expansion. The eight stations to be built include:
- Ashokvan
- Dongargaon
- Mohgaon
- Meghdoot CIDCO
- Butibori Police Station
- MHADA Colony
- MIDC KEC
- MIDC ESR
Enia Design has been appointed as the Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) for these stations under Package DDC-03, ensuring that the stations meet both aesthetic and functional standards.
Contract Details and Financial Overview
Maha-Metro, which launched the bidding process for this contract in April 2024, had estimated the total cost for Package C-09 at ₹258 crore. The construction timeline for the project is set at 2.5 years, with financing from a $200 million loan provided by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
YFC – BBG JV submitted a bid of ₹219.33 crore, significantly undercutting the estimated cost, making it the clear frontrunner. Their bid will likely lead to a swift contract award in the coming weeks, barring any unforeseen delays during the final financial bid evaluation.
The completion of these eight stations is crucial for the seamless operation of Nagpur Metro’s Phase 2 expansion. This segment of the Orange Line will serve as an important transportation link for commuters, connecting residential, commercial, and industrial hubs in the region. The project is expected to ease traffic congestion and promote sustainable urban mobility in Nagpur.
For YFC Projects and BBG Infrastructure, the C-09 contract marks a major achievement, as this will be their first successful bid after several near-misses in the Phase 2 civil contract tenders.
Viaduct Construction for C-09 Package
Construction of the viaduct, which will interlink the eight elevated stations in Package C-09, will be handled under Package C-02. The Rs. 903.53 crore C-02 contract was awarded to GR Infraprojects (GRIL) in October 2024, and construction work for the viaduct officially commenced at the end of December 2024.
As YFC – BBG JV prepares to take on the construction of these vital metro stations, their success in securing the C-09 package showcases their growing expertise in the infrastructure sector. The ongoing developments in Nagpur's metro network are poised to significantly enhance urban mobility, with Phase 2 contributing to a modern, efficient, and eco-friendly public transportation system.
