1st Pile Cap Cast for Sabarmati Bridge of Mumbai – Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project

Ahmedabad, India (Metro Rail Today): In a remarkable stride towards progress, workers from IRCON International – Dineshchandra R. Agrawal Infracon JV initiated a pivotal phase on Tuesday by pouring concrete for the first pile cap of the Sabarmati River Bridge, a crucial segment of the Mumbai – Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Bullet Train project. This development marks a substantial leap forward in the ambitious 508.17 km high-speed rail project connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

The Sabarmati Bridge, part of Package C7, is slated to be approximately 315 meters long, featuring four massive piers designed to support the Shinkansen trains, enabling them to operate at speeds of up to 320 km/h. Each pier's pile cap boasts dimensions of 20 meters x 20 meters, highlighting the scale of this engineering endeavor. For those curious about the project's visual impact, satellite imagery on Google Maps offers a fascinating perspective.

Package C-7, spanning from chainage 489.467 to 507.600, stands as the third-longest civil package within Gujarat state, entirely encompassing the Ahmedabad metropolitan region. Noteworthy are the two elevated stations planned at Ahmedabad and Sabarmati, contributing to the seamless integration of high-speed rail infrastructure with urban connectivity.

The construction contract for this monumental phase, valued at Rs. 3429 crore, was awarded to IRCON – DRA Infracon JV by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL) in November 2021. The contractual obligation comes with a stringent deadline of 4.5 years for completion, underscoring the commitment to timely project delivery.

A crucial aspect of the Mumbai – Ahmedabad high-speed rail project involves the construction of 24 bridges over various rivers, including Narmada, Sabarmati, Mahi, Par, Kaveri, Purna Ambika, Daroatha, Daman Ganga, Tapi, Kim, Vishwamitri, Mohar, Vatrak, and Meshwa. Each of these bridges plays a vital role in ensuring the seamless flow of the high-speed rail network over diverse terrains.

Highlighting some completed milestones, construction has concluded on six bridges spanning the Par River (Valsad district), Purna River (Navsari district), Mindhola River (Navsari district), Ambika River (Navsari district), Auranga River (Valsad district), and Venganiya River (Navsari district). These achievements underscore the project's steady progress and adherence to construction timelines.

Looking ahead, the Mumbai – Ahmedabad high-speed rail project is poised to set benchmarks with the construction of the longest bridge in Maharashtra over the Vaitarna River (2.28 km) and the longest bridge in Gujarat over the Narmada River (1.2 km south of Bharuch). These feats underscore the engineering prowess harnessed for the successful execution of this transformative project.

The casting of the first pile cap for the Sabarmati River Bridge signifies a significant achievement in the Mumbai – Ahmedabad Bullet Train project. This engineering marvel, coupled with the successful completion of multiple bridges, propels the high-speed rail initiative closer to its envisioned reality. As construction progresses, the project is not merely connecting cities; it is bridging the future of efficient and rapid transportation.
