Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): In a strategic move to enhance urban transportation, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has formalized an agreement for the "Preparation of Traffic Demand Forecasting report for studying the feasibility of Mass Rapid Transit System from MMBT to Nallur toll plaza." The contract, signed on January 30, 2024, marks a crucial step in evaluating the viability of a Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) along a 10 km corridor.
The primary scope of this agreement encompasses the meticulous preparation of a traffic demand forecasting report. This report aims to assess the feasibility of implementing a Mass Rapid Transit System, a pivotal aspect in addressing Chennai's growing urban mobility needs, specifically from the MMBT to the Nallur Toll Plaza.
The decision to explore the feasibility of a Mass Rapid Transit System is aligned with Chennai's commitment to progressive urban development. As the city continues to expand, establishing an efficient and sustainable transportation network becomes imperative. The MRTS, if deemed feasible, could significantly contribute to addressing traffic congestion and enhancing overall connectivity.
The Contract Agreement was officially signed by T. Archunan, Director (Projects) representing CMRL, and K R Kumar – President of M/s Almondz Global Infra-Consultant Limited, along with R. Thanigaivel – Project Manager from M/s Four Wall Consultancy, forming a Joint Venture Consortium. This collaboration brings together the expertise of CMRL and the consulting prowess of Almondz Global Infra-Consultant Limited and Four Wall Consultancy.
The signed contract between Chennai Metro Rail Limited and the Joint Venture Consortium signifies a proactive step towards understanding and potentially implementing a Mass Rapid Transit System.
