Titagarh Rail Systems targets full Indigenous Aluminium Coach Manufacturing by FY2027
Kolkata, India (Metro Rail Today): Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), a leading Indian manufacturer of rolling stock, has initiated the production of trainsets for the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited's (BMRCL) Phase 2 Yellow Line project. This development marks a significant milestone in Titagarh's contribution to India's urban transportation infrastructure.
The contract between BMRCL and China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) Nanjing Puzhen Co Ltd, signed in December 2019, faced challenges that resulted in delays beyond the original deadlines. To mitigate these delays in rolling stock supply, CRRC entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Titagarh Rail Systems. Under this agreement, Titagarh will manufacture the majority of the trainsets required for the Yellow Line project at its advanced facility in Uttarpara.
Titagarh is tasked with producing 34 out of the 36 trainsets needed for the Yellow Line project, with only two trainsets (comprising 12 coaches) being manufactured in China. To meet the project's specific requirements, Titagarh has set up a dedicated stainless steel production line at its Uttarpara facility. Production commenced on May 18th, 2024, and the first trainset is scheduled for delivery in August 2024.
The Yellow Line, spanning 21 kilometers from RV Road to Bommasandra, is a critical metro corridor designed to enhance connectivity and alleviate traffic congestion in Bengaluru. Once operational, this line is expected to significantly improve urban mobility for the city's residents, easing daily commute challenges.
Titagarh's involvement in this prestigious project underscores its commitment to supporting national infrastructure development through reliable transportation solutions. The company's extensive manufacturing capabilities enable it to cater to diverse transportation needs, solidifying its position as a leader in the rail transportation sector.
Titagarh Rail Systems Limited's commencement of trainset production for Bengaluru Metro's Yellow Line represents a pivotal step forward in the expansion of urban transit infrastructure in India. With its dedication to quality, innovation, and technological advancement, Titagarh continues to play a crucial role in advancing the country's transportation network.
