Abu Dhabi, UAE (Rail & Metro Today): Abu Dhabi Transport Company (ADTC) has issued a Request for Prequalification (RFQ) to consultants for project management engineering consultancy services for the first phase of the emirate's planned light rail transit network, known as ADT4 or Abu Dhabi Tram Line 4.
The RFQ notice was issued on September 7, with consultants required to submit their prequalification responses by November 9. The consultancy package forms part of preparations for the first phase of the tram network, which is planned to connect Zayed International Airport (AUH) with major destinations including Yas Island, Al-Raha Beach and Khalifa City.
The first phase of the Abu Dhabi tram project will span approximately 19 kilometres and comprise 23 stations. The network is being developed to provide a new electric urban transport option linking the airport with major residential, commercial, tourism and entertainment destinations.
The largest section will connect AUH with Yas Island. Starting at Terminal A, the tram will pass through the Yas tunnel towards Yas Gateway Park, serving destinations including Yas Bay, Media Zone, Yas Plaza, Yas Drive, Yas Mall, Sea World and Water Edge.
This section will cover approximately 13 km, with 13 at-grade stations and one underground station.
The Al-Raha section will extend for approximately 4.3 km along Al-Raha Street, serving communities and developments including Al-Zeina, Al-Muneera and Al-Bandar before reaching the vicinity of the Aldar head office. It will include seven at-grade stations.
Another section will connect through Etihad Plaza, passing the Etihad Aviation Training Centre. Covering approximately 1.7 km, this section will include two at-grade stations and a main tram depot near the Etihad Airways headquarters.
The project also includes the procurement of 25 trams, each designed to accommodate approximately 270 passengers, together with associated systems.
The Abu Dhabi tram project was officially launched at the GlobalRail exhibition in Abu Dhabi in October last year. Referred to as Abu Dhabi Tram Line 4, the overall project is planned to be delivered in three phases.
Construction of the first phase is expected to begin next year, with passenger services targeted to commence by 2030. Future phases are planned to extend the network towards Khalifa City and provide additional connectivity across Yas Island.
The project management engineering consultancy will support the development and delivery of the first phase as the project progresses towards construction and eventual operations.
The ADT4 tram network forms part of Abu Dhabi's wider investment in road and rail infrastructure. The project is included within a recently announced AED 170 billion ($46 billion) package of national transport and road projects planned for implementation by 2030.
The development of the tram network is expected to strengthen public transport connectivity between Zayed International Airport and some of Abu Dhabi's fastest-growing residential, commercial and leisure districts.
With the RFQ now underway, the appointment of the project management engineering consultant will represent an important next step towards delivering the first phase of Abu Dhabi's new light rail network.
