CMRS approves operation of Pune Metro's Ruby Hall Clinic - Ramwadi stretch

Pune, India (Metro Rail Today): The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has officially approved the 5.5 kilometers Ruby Hall Clinic - Ramwadi section on Pune Metro Line-2. This endorsement follows a thorough inspection conducted by the CMRS last month, with a few minor observations identified that required rectification before obtaining the green light for commercial operations. While the exact commencement date for passenger services remains uncertain, there is a possibility that the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) could initiate operations within the next two days, pending directives from the state government.

This newly approved stretch is a vital component of the first phase of the Pune Metro rail project, consisting of two primary corridors: the north-south (Purple line) and the east-west (Aqua line). Combined, these corridors cover a substantial length of 33.1 kilometers, featuring 30 stations. The north-south corridor, spanning 17.4 km from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to Swargate, is already partially operational, serving the public from Pimpri to Civil Court. The remaining 3.7-km stretch to Swargate is expected to open in March.

Simultaneously, the east-west corridor, stretching 15.7 km from Vanaz to Ramwadi and encompassing 16 stations, is currently operational from Vanaz to Ruby Clinic. The eagerly awaited inauguration of the final 5.5-km stretch to Ramwadi is anticipated to occur soon. Upon full completion, the Pune Metro will seamlessly connect the city, linking Vanaz to Ramwadi and PCMC to Swargate, expanding its reach from the current 24 km to an impressive 33.1 km.

The approval from CMRS marks a significant milestone in the ongoing progress of the Pune Metro project, paving the way for enhanced connectivity and efficient transportation within the city. The potential commencement of operations within the next two days reflects the dedication of MahaMetro and the collaborative efforts to bring this transformative project to fruition.

In the larger context, the completion of both corridors will not only alleviate traffic congestion but also contribute to the overall modernization and development of Pune's transportation infrastructure. As the city eagerly awaits the full functionality of the Pune Metro, this achievement signifies a positive step forward in advancing public transportation in the region.
