Nagpur, India (Metro Rail Today): The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) is demonstrating its commitment to sustainability by embarking on a crucial endeavor focused on carbon credits issuance through its Nagpur and Pune metro projects. This initiative underscores MMRCL's dedication to environmental responsibility and marks a significant step toward reducing carbon emissions in the transportation sector.
The appointed consultant will be tasked with evaluating sustainability initiatives across both the Nagpur Metro Rail Phase-I Project and Pune Metro Rail Phase-I Project. Their responsibilities encompass identifying projects suitable for carbon credit mechanisms, conducting detailed assessments, and recommending strategies to maximize revenue generation from carbon credits.
The consultant's scope includes evaluating projects under various carbon credit mechanisms such as modal shift, regenerative braking systems, renewable energy (solar), energy efficiency measures, water conservation/reuse projects, and other eligible initiatives. They will also prepare Project Idea Notes and Concept Notes, assessing project feasibility and potential GHG emission reductions.
Applicants must demonstrate a track record of completing similar contracts over the past seven years, meeting specific cost thresholds. This ensures that the selected consultant possesses the necessary expertise and experience to effectively carry out the assigned tasks.
MMRCL's initiative to explore carbon credits issuance reflects its proactive approach to sustainability and environmental stewardship. By engaging a consultant to assess and register sustainability initiatives, MMRCL aims to optimize its contribution to mitigating climate change while advancing the development of eco-friendly transportation infrastructure in Nagpur and Pune.
