Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): Efkon India Private Limited has secured a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) for a major telecommunication systems contract covering Mumbai Metro Line 7A, Line 9, and the Dongri Depot.
Under the contract, the company will undertake the design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of telecommunication systems for the metro corridors, further strengthening operational communication infrastructure for the expanding Mumbai Metro network.
A total of three companies participated in the bidding process for the contract:
Efkon India Private Limited
Alstom Transport India Limited
L&T Technology Services Limited
During the technical evaluation stage, the bid submitted by L&T Technology Services Limited was rejected. The process then moved to the financial evaluation stage, where Efkon India emerged as the lowest bidder.
Efkon India quoted ₹103 crore, significantly lower than the ₹150.6 crore bid submitted by Alstom Transport India Limited, ultimately securing the contract. Following the completion of the evaluation process, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) issued the Letter of Acceptance to Efkon India.
The contract involves the design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the telecommunication system (excluding the TETRA system) for the following infrastructure:
Mumbai Metro Line 7A (Andheri East – CSMIA)
Mumbai Metro Line 9 (Dahisar East – Mira-Bhayandar)
Dongri Depot
The telecommunications infrastructure will play a vital role in enabling real-time communication, operational control, passenger information systems, and safety monitoring across the metro corridors.
Mumbai Metro Line 7A and Line 9 are important extensions of Mumbai Metro Line 7 (Red Line) and are designed to significantly improve connectivity across the western suburbs and adjoining regions.
Mumbai Metro Line 7A spans 3.42 km, connecting Gundavali (Andheri East) with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). The corridor will provide direct metro connectivity to the airport, enhancing convenience for both daily commuters and air travellers.
Mumbai Metro Line 9 covers 11.38 km, extending the Red Line from Dahisar East to Mira-Bhayandar, one of the fastest-growing suburban regions in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The corridor aims to ease traffic congestion and improve public transport accessibility in the area.
Once operational, these corridors are expected to significantly reduce travel time and enhance multi-modal connectivity across the city’s metro network.
Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, highlighted the importance of advanced communication systems in modern metro networks.
“Telecommunication systems form the backbone of metro operations, enabling seamless coordination between trains, stations, and control centres. As cities like Mumbai rapidly expand their metro networks, the deployment of integrated communication technologies will be critical for ensuring safe, efficient, and passenger-friendly operations,” she said.
Mumbai is currently witnessing one of the largest metro expansion programs in India, with several new corridors under construction across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Infrastructure packages such as telecommunication systems, signalling, and depot facilities are crucial for ensuring that the new metro lines operate with high reliability, safety, and efficiency once they become operational.
The award of this contract to Efkon India marks another step forward in delivering advanced infrastructure for Mumbai’s rapidly growing urban transit system.
