New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant move towards the operational readiness of Phase-IV corridors of the Delhi Metro, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) unveiled its advanced integrated Operation Control Centre (OCC) at Metro Bhawan, the DMRC headquarters. The state-of-the-art OCC, inaugurated by Vikas Kumar, Managing Director/DMRC, marks a crucial milestone in the efficient management and monitoring of the entire metro system.
The OCC, situated on the 3rd Floor of Metro Bhawan, is designed to provide remote visibility and maneuverability of the entire metro system, including Rolling Stock, Stations, Signals, and Tracks, with concourse and platform level monitoring. This centralized control hub ensures continuous monitoring of passengers and the metro system, encompassing operations on existing lines such as the Red Line (Line-1: Rithala to Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda) and Yellow Line (Line-2: Samaypur Badli to Millennium City Centre Gurugram), as well as upcoming Phase-IV corridors.
The new OCC will play a pivotal role in overseeing the operations of the upcoming Phase-IV corridors, including Delhi Aerocity to Tughlakabad, Rithala – Bawana-Narela-Kundli, and Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block, once these lines become operational for the public. This integrated infrastructure consolidates the control and command functions, streamlining the operational management of the entire DMRC network.
Previously, OCC for the Red and Yellow Lines operated from Shastri Park Metro station, while OCCs for other operational lines were situated on the 4th and 6th floors of Metro Bhawan. With the commissioning of the new OCC, the entirety of the DMRC network will be centrally controlled from DMRC's headquarters at Metro Bhawan.
The integrated OCC at Metro Bhawan is a strategic initiative to enhance centralized monitoring and control in the event of disruptions or failures in the metro system. With 29 interchange metro stations, the concentration of expert staff in one unified location enables swift decision-making and facilitates rapid incident resolution, ensuring the regularity, safety, and security of train operations.
The OCC is staffed by dedicated personnel, including the Chief Controller, Traffic Controllers, Traction Power Controllers, Signalling Controllers, and Auxiliary System Controllers, who manage and supervise the OCC 24/7. This centralized control center ensures the efficient utilization of staff resources and enables the unified control and command of the entire DMRC network, covering 415 km of track length, around 388 trains, 301 stations, and 40 interchange stations (up to Phase-IV of approved corridors).
The establishment of the integrated OCC at Metro Bhawan represents a significant stride in the operational capabilities of the Delhi Metro, setting the stage for seamless and well-coordinated metro services across the expanding network.
