New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has officially commenced construction of the Central Secretariat Metro Station under the upcoming Central Vista Corridor, marking a major milestone in the expansion of Delhi Metro’s network and strengthening connectivity to the administrative heart of the national capital.
The station is being developed as part of Phase V(A) and forms a key section of the Magenta Line extension from Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg. The foundation of the project was marked in the presence of Shri Manohar Lal, Hon’ble Union Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs and Power. The event was also attended by Shri Katikithala Srinivas, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Chairman, DMRC, along with senior officials.
Once completed, Central Secretariat will emerge as a strategic triple interchange station, enabling seamless passenger movement between the new Magenta Line extension and the existing Yellow Line and Violet Line corridors. The interchange is expected to significantly improve accessibility for thousands of daily commuters, particularly government employees, visitors and citizens travelling to the Lutyens’ Delhi zone and surrounding administrative and institutional districts.
The 9.913-km fully underground corridor will comprise nine stations, including Shivaji Stadium, Yuge Yugeen Bharat, Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhawan, India Gate, War Memorial–High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam and Indraprastha.
The corridor has been strategically planned to enhance access to some of India’s most important national destinations, including government ministries, administrative offices, judicial institutions, national memorials and convention infrastructure.
The project is expected to play a crucial role in improving multimodal integration and reducing dependence on road-based transport in central Delhi while supporting efficient and sustainable urban mobility.
Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said:
“Projects such as the Central Vista Metro Corridor demonstrate how integrated urban transit infrastructure can transform accessibility and improve commuter experience in high-density institutional districts. Enhanced interchange facilities and seamless connectivity will further strengthen public transport adoption and support sustainable urban mobility in the capital.”
With the addition of this corridor, Delhi Metro continues to expand its role as the backbone of public transportation in the National Capital Region, improving network connectivity and enhancing commuter convenience across key urban zones.
