New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced the formation of Delhi Metro International Limited (DMIL), a wholly owned subsidiary established to take Delhi Metro's globally recognised expertise in urban rail transit to international markets. The new entity will provide comprehensive consultancy, project management, operations and maintenance (O&M), and advisory services for metro, railway and urban mobility projects across India and overseas.
The announcement marks a strategic milestone in DMRC's evolution from a metro operator into a global mobility solutions provider. Leveraging more than two decades of experience in planning, constructing and operating one of the world's most successful metro systems, DMIL aims to support transit authorities through every stage of project development—from feasibility studies and planning to implementation, commissioning, operations, maintenance and asset management.
Delhi Metro today operates a network of over 416 kilometres with more than 300 stations, serving nearly 6.5 million passenger journeys every day. Its proven expertise in delivering large-scale urban transit systems on time and maintaining high standards of operational excellence has positioned it among the world's leading metro operators.
DMIL will be led by Sanjay Jamuar as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO). With over 36 years of experience in the railway and metro sector, Jamuar was one of the founding members of Delhi Metro and played a pivotal role in establishing its operations and maintenance framework. An ex-Indian Railways executive, he has held senior leadership positions across the United Kingdom, France, the United States and the Middle East, with expertise spanning railway operations, infrastructure development, project finance, public-private partnerships (PPP), business development and transport modernisation.
Over the years, DMRC has significantly expanded its footprint beyond the National Capital Region by undertaking operations and maintenance responsibilities for several metro systems across India. These include Chennai Metro Phase 2 (118 km, 112 stations), Mumbai Metro Line 3 (34 km, 27 stations), Patna Metro Red Line (32.5 km, 26 stations), Noida–Greater Noida Metro (29.71 km, 21 stations) and Rapid Metro Gurugram (12.85 km, 11 stations).
DMRC has also emerged as a pioneer in driverless metro operations in India, successfully implementing Unattended Train Operations (UTO) on its Magenta and Pink Lines, covering more than 90 kilometres. The organisation's expertise in advanced technologies such as predictive maintenance, digital asset management and multimodal integration further strengthens its capability to support complex urban transit systems.
Through DMIL, DMRC will offer an integrated portfolio of services covering feasibility studies, planning and design, procurement support, construction supervision, system integration, testing and commissioning, operations and maintenance, asset management, workforce training and strategic advisory services. By combining engineering excellence with operational experience under a single platform, DMIL aims to deliver practical, end-to-end mobility solutions tailored to the needs of cities worldwide.
Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said:
"The establishment of Delhi Metro International Limited is a significant milestone for India's urban mobility sector. Having successfully developed one of the world's most respected metro systems, DMRC is now well positioned to export its technical expertise, operational excellence and project management capabilities to global markets. This initiative will not only strengthen India's presence in international rail infrastructure but also showcase the country's growing leadership in sustainable urban transportation."
The launch of DMIL reflects India's growing capability to export world-class urban transit expertise and reinforces Delhi Metro's position as a benchmark for sustainable, safe and efficient public transportation.
